What part of the Bronx are you from? Where did you grow up?
I am from "Uptown" the real Uptown. I grew up in the Wakefield section of the Bronx. I spent my grade school years on E 228 and lived on E 221 through my college years.
How has living in the Bronx inspired or influenced your work?
If NYC is a "melting pot" of different cultures, then I believe the Bronx is the market where you buy the fresh ingredients. Living in the Bronx taught me to appreciate diversity. I learned to create as not just a person from New York, but a resident of the world.
What's your creative process?
Whether it be looking back on the events of the day or from my youth, I am continuously using my memories as fuel for flight. With my notebook, a black ink pen, hours of reflection and some Hip-hop, Reggae, and R&B music (sometimes homemade) playing in the background; I draw on my past experiences to create uplifting new ones.
What ideas, if any, do you want to inspire with your art?
I want to inspire the ideas of being Proper and ProPower. The two are actually connected. To be Proper means to be true in nature and genuine. ProPower means supporting the positive movements of oneself and others around the world. If one is Proper in their endeavors then they are ProPower because they seek strength and edification without attempting to hinder the next person. Once an individual maintains a ProPower mindset, then their train of thought is Proper.
